Buteyko Breathing Method
In today’s fast-paced world, many of us live in survival mode — constantly rushing, multitasking, and barely stopping to breathe… let alone breathe well.
Chronic stress, poor sleep, excessive screen time, and environmental toxins have taken a toll on our health, especially our breathing. In just the last five years, asthma and allergy rates have risen dramatically, now affecting more than 1 in 12 adults and 1 in 10 children globally. At the same time, anxiety, burnout, and emotional overwhelm are higher than ever. Hyperventilation is almost universal, particularly in developed counties.
What most people don’t realise is that dysfunctional breathing can both fuel and reflect these issues.
The good news? When we learn to breathe better, we start to feel better — calmer, clearer, and more resilient from the inside out.
The Buteyko Breathing Method is a gentle, science-based practice that helps you restore natural breathing, through the nose, in a calm and rhythmic way.
It reduces chronic over-breathing (also known as hyperventilation), balances oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body, and supports your nervous system. As a result, it helps you:
Breathe more efficiently
Sleep more deeply
Reduce symptoms of asthma, anxiety, allergies, and chronic fatigue
All of this — without force, without pushing through, and without medication.
This method empowers your body to do what it’s naturally designed to do: heal and regulate itself — one breath at a time.
Meet Dr. Konstantin Buteyko
The Buteyko Breathing Method was developed by Dr. Konstantin Buteyko, a brilliant Russian physician and medical researcher. In his thirties, Dr. Buteyko was diagnosed with dangerously high blood pressure and given a grim prognosis. Unwilling to accept a lifetime of suffering, he set out to uncover the root causes of chronic disease.
Drawing on modern science and ancient wisdom—including the breathing principles of Lao Tzu—Dr. Buteyko discovered a powerful link between dysfunctional breathing and a wide range of health issues. Through dedicated research and personal practice, he developed a simple yet profound method of breathing retraining that transformed his own health.
Dr. Buteyko went on to live a long, purposeful life, reaching the age of 80. His legacy lives on through the countless people who continue to benefit from his science-backed, natural approach to healing.
This insight became the foundation of his life's work. Dr. Buteyko went on to develop a practical, effective and structured method to help people retrain their breathing and support the body’s natural healing processes.
Today, his method is used worldwide - helping adults, children, and families find relief, healing, and calm through the power of breath.
“Breathing is not just a habit — it’s a measurable, trainable function of the body. I developed a science of breathing based on physiology, because real change starts with numbers. Without understanding what’s happening, we can’t expect to improve it.”
— K. Buteyko
